Early prevention saves the day!

Preventive dentistry is an essential part of a child's growth, development, and overall health. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recommends that children visit a pediatric dentist at least every six months to maintain optimal oral health, monitor dental and jaw development, and help prevent cavities. These routine visits also provide the opportunity to assess cavity risk and apply preventive treatments, such as dental sealants, when appropriate.

Regular dental visits help the pediatric dentist detect early signs of oral health concerns, including cavities, gum disease or irritation, enamel defects, abnormal dental growth and development, bite changes, and the effects of oral habits such as thumb sucking or prolonged pacifier use. Early detection allows for timely intervention, helping to prevent more complex problems and support your child's healthy smile.

At Bubbles Pediatric Dentistry, a preventive visit is much more than just a dental cleaning. It is a comprehensive evaluation designed to support your child's overall oral health and development. During each visit, we assess home oral hygiene routines, dietary habits, oral habits, comfort level, and dental growth and development to help your child achieve a healthy smile and thrive as they grow.

Pediatric Dental Exams in Charlotte NC

A pediatric dental exam gives our team a clear picture of your child’s oral health. During the exam, we check the teeth, gums, bite, jaw development, soft tissues, and early signs of dental concerns.

For younger children, we may also talk with parents about teething, pacifier use, thumb sucking, fluoride, brushing routines, snacks, and bottle or cup habits. For older children and teens, we may review sports protection, brushing habits, orthodontic development, and cavity risk.

Every child is different, so each exam is guided by age, comfort, cooperation, health history, and dental needs.

Dental Cleanings for Kids

Even children who brush every day can miss small areas around the gumline, between teeth, or in the grooves of back teeth. Professional dental cleanings help remove plaque and buildup that regular brushing may not fully reach.

At Bubbles Pediatric Dentistry, cleanings are gentle, age-appropriate, and designed to help children feel comfortable. Our team also uses the visit to teach better brushing habits in a way kids can understand.

A cleaning can also help parents learn what is working at home and where their child may need extra support.

Pediatric Dental Checkups That Keep Growing Smiles on Track

Pediatric dental checkups help families stay ahead of problems. During a checkup, our team looks for cavities, enamel weakness, gum concerns, bite changes, tooth eruption patterns, and habits that may affect long-term smile development.

Checkups also give parents a chance to ask questions before something becomes urgent. If your child has sensitivity, a chipped tooth, bad breath, bleeding gums, or trouble brushing, this visit can help uncover what may be causing it.

At Bubbles Pediatric Dentistry, checkups are planned around your child’s age and comfort level, so every visit feels more personal and less rushed.

Fluoride Treatment for Children

Fluoride is a mineral that helps strengthen tooth enamel and protect teeth from cavities. Children may benefit from professional fluoride treatment when they are still learning how to brush well, have a history of cavities, wear braces, snack often, or have teeth that are more prone to decay.

Fluoride treatment is quick, simple, and often completed during a regular preventive visit. Our team will explain whether your child may benefit from fluoride based on their cavity risk and oral health needs.

The goal is to strengthen the enamel and give your child’s smile extra protection between visits.

Parent Education That Makes Home Care Easier

Preventive care works best when families know what to do at home. During your child’s visit, our team may talk with you about brushing, flossing, diet, fluoride toothpaste, snacks, drinks, oral habits, and what to watch for between visits.

We keep the guidance practical. Parents do not need a complicated routine. Most families need clear steps that fit real life, school mornings, bedtime routines, picky eating, school schedules, and busy family days.

Our goal is to help children build habits they can carry into adulthood.

Silver Diamine Fluoride Treatment for Kids

Silver diamine fluoride, often called SDF, may be recommended for some children with small or early cavities when immediate traditional treatment is not the best first step.

SDF is applied directly to the affected area. It can help slow or stop cavity progression in selected cases while giving the child time to grow, cooperate better, or receive additional care later when appropriate.

This treatment is not right for every cavity. It can also darken the treated area, so our team explains the benefits, limitations, and appearance changes before recommending it.

May help when a child is not ready for longer treatment

Multiple Cavities

Can help manage selected areas before definitive care

Dental Anxiety

May reduce the need for immediate traditional treatment

Medical Concerns

Dental Guard for Kids

Children who play contact sports or grind their teeth may need extra protection. A mouth guard helps protect the teeth, gums, lips, and jaw from injury during sports or nighttime grinding.

Custom Dental Guard are made to fit more securely and comfortably than store-bought options. A better fit can make it easier for children to wear them consistently.

At Bubbles Pediatric Dentistry, we may recommend Dental Guard for kids who play sports, clench, grind, or have a higher risk of dental injury.

Cavity Risk Assessment for Kids

Some children are more likely to develop dental cavities because of brushing challenges, frequent snacks, enamel strength, past cavities, medications, or dry mouth. A cavity risk assessment helps identify those risks before pain, sensitivity, or visible damage begins.

During a preventive visit, our team reviews your child’s teeth, gums, plaque patterns, fluoride use, food choices, drink habits, and home care routine. This helps us recommend prevention based on your child’s needs, not one general plan.

If your child has had cavities before or struggles with brushing, our team can explain simple steps to help lower cavity risk.

Help for Thumb Sucking, Pacifiers, and Oral Habits

Some childhood habits can affect tooth position, bite development, speech, feeding, breathing, or confidence. Thumb sucking, finger sucking, long-term pacifier use, tongue habits, and other oral habits may need guidance when they continue beyond the expected age.

At Bubbles Pediatric Dentistry, we review your child’s age, habit pattern, dental development, and comfort level before making recommendations. Some children need encouragement and time. Others may need a more structured plan.

The goal is to help your child move away from the habit in a safe, supportive way.
